Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Wrist pain can usually have two elements, firstly there is
the localised inflammation and pain which may have any number of causes. Common
causes include trauma by a direct impact and overuse injuries which can be
traced to muscles in the forearm.
Flexor and extensor muscles of the forearm can develop
trigger points through overuse or day to day activities. Releasing the knots
and trigger points in these muscles usually fixes many common wrist complaints.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome involves the tightening of the sheath
around one of these muscle’s tendons. The resulting friction causes
inflammation and pain in the carpal tunnel of the wrist. Again, releasing
trigger points in the forearm as well as relaxing the tendon sheath can be very effective in reducing and clearing carpal tunnel syndrome.
Acupuncture and massage are fantastic non-surgical ways of
addressing many wrist problems.
