Small Changes Equals Big Results
Throughout my time as a practicing acupuncturist, I have seen many patients who are wishing to improve their health, but don't want to radically change their lifestyles to do so.
In many ways I believe that you should be realistic about your goals when it comes to improving your health and lifestyle.
Fad diets, and binge exercising usually result in temporary change, followed by a return to old ways with the added stress of a sense of failure.
Lifestyle changes should be gradual and achievable.
For example, dietary change should start by the removal of foods that are causing problems. But not all at once. Cut down on your intake of greasy fatty foods or raw foods. Slowly replace them with cooked nourishing foods.
You can still have that bag of chips or hamburger, just not all the time.
The same goes for alcohol. If you enjoy a drink, then don't stop just reduce your intake. For example, if you drink everyday try to have an alcohol-free day once a week, then twice a week and so on.
By implementing these small changes, you will notice a difference in how you feel. Your energy levels will improve, and you will be able to think more clearly. And this will motivate you to make further changes.
In the end it is about you making choices you can stick with. This is the long game. These are changes that will become a natural part of your lifestyle.
Exercise is the same, start off slowly. Do something that is low impact like cycling or swimming. A couple of times a week is a good start.
Come down to Hawthorn or Elsternwick for lifestyle assessment and advice, followed by a relaxing yet motivating acupuncture session.
